Petco Foundation Invests In Lifesaving Work of Project Precious Paws/Montgomery City Animal Shelter

Grant of $10,000. will extend efforts to save more animal lives in Montgomery area.

Montgomery City, Missouri, (December 8, 2016)–Project Precious Paws/ Montgomery City Animal Shelter of Montgomery City, Missouri today announced it has been awarded a $10,000. grant from the Petco Foundation to support animal adoptions and facility and equipment improvements at their shelter.

Project Precious Paws is a nonprofit organization that started as a foster based rescue and since October of 2015 has been operating the Montgomery City Animal Shelter. Although the shelter primarily serves Montgomery City, we also are involved in rescues in Montgomery County, Missouri. Since 2010, Project Precious Paws has rescued and found new forever homes for hundreds of dogs and cats and we continue to rescue hundreds more by operating the Montgomery City Animal Shelter and helping find homes for animals abandoned in Montgomery County.

The Petco Foundation investment will allow for improvements to help make the facility safer and more comfortable for the animals, adopters and volunteers. This grant will be used to complete the adoption room by installing a floor and adding heating and cooling.   Step on scale will be purchased to make it easier to weigh heavy dogs, a double sink will be added and a security camera system will be purchased to prevent animal abandonment at the shelter. A portion of the grant will also be used to start a pilot community spay/neuter project. All of these improvements will make the facility more welcoming and comfortable and encourage more adopters to visit and adopt.

“We are so excited to receive this generous grant from the Petco Foundation and for the opportunity to improve our facility and increase adoptions. We are a rural shelter and we don’t get the traffic that bigger facilities get, so we want to be the “little shelter that could” and this grant will help us show off the wonderful pets we have available for adoption as well as support the community we serve,” Said Laurie Sippel, President.”

About Project Precious Paws

Project Precious Paws was founded in July 2010 by a small group of dedicated animal rescuers who have a passion for helping find permanent homes for abandoned, stray, or relinquished animals.

We took over the City of Montgomery Animal Shelter on October 1, 2015 and are operating it as a contract shelter. Our primary responsibility is to care for strays brought in by the city, return them to their owners, or find them new homes if their owners are not located. However, we will still take animals into foster care as space allows and we help county residents with finding homes for strays and other animal issues.

About the Petco Foundation

At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life.  Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $170 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 5 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.

July 2016

We have received a generous emergency grant of more than $6000 from PetSmart Charities to help us with the rescue of the 50 cats abandoned at a foreclosed home. The grant included a delivery of Authority cat chow, bowls, litter pans, litter and a cash award for veterinary treatment and to purchase cages to house them all.

As of 12/02/16 we still have 36 cats and kittens in the shelter from the cats we rescued.dscn1490-2
